SEA LIFE Hunstanton launches sensory traffic light initiative for neurodivergent guests

Quiet At The Aquarium

Developed in partnership with Merlin's Magic Wand, the company's charitable organisation, and founder of award-winning sensory clothing brand Born Anxious, Kellie Barker, the sensory cues will enable neurodivergent guests to show how they are feeling during their visit to SEA LIFE Hunstanton. This will in turn enable staff and guests to act in a way that is sensitive to them and their needs.

Sensory Aids

Upon entry to SEA LIFE Hunstanton, those with autism and other sensory requirements will be offered a sticker sheet to help them visually display their emotions at any given point.

Kellie, whose son Oscar is on the autism spectrum and is nonverbal, developed the idea based on her own personal experiences and the need for family-focused attractions to be welcoming and inclusive destinations for all. 

On working with Merlin Entertainments to create the traffic light system, Kellie Barker said: "Born Anxious is excited to be working with Merlin Entertainments to introduce the new sensory traffic lights initiative. We hope the stickers are a welcome tool for families who visit SEA LIFE Aquariums and those who use them feel they are adaptable and fun to wear."
