Goose Takes the Plunge

SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium is excited to share that its latest arrival, the adorable gentoo penguin chick - Goose, has officially taken his first swim!

Braving the chilly waters of the Macquarie Island-inspired habitat for his first swimming lesson, the energetic two-month-old enjoyed exploring the water under the watchful eye of his parents - Winnie (mum) and Pink Lady (dad).

Keepers have been gradually introducing Goose to the other members of the penguin colony and donning wetsuits to join him in the water, providing guidance during this significant milestone.

Miranda Kerr, Penguin Keeper at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, shared, “Weighing in at 5.6kg this week and completing his fledging, we’re proud to see how well he is doing, and how naturally he has taken to the water – beautifully demonstrating why gentoo penguins are the fastest swimming penguins in the world.”

Hatching on 3 November 2024, Goose is now three months old. As Goose gains greater independence, he will begin participating in daily training and enrichment sessions to assist the team in managing a healthy and sound colony.
