Everyone Loves Bling

There are certain noticeable similarities between penguins and humans. We both love to frolic in the water; we both spend an inordinate amount of time trying to woo our mates; and it turns out we are both attracted to anything shiny!
Whilst our attraction usually comes down to spending an inordinate amount of time trying to woo our mates, the penguin's motives are less than clear. Many theories abound, from the animals confusing the reflection of shiny objects for the rising of the morning sun, to natural curiosity from a blinding light shining in your eyes and even the possibility that presenting your potential mate with a shiny object increases your chances of love (maybe we aren't that different after all!)
Penguins are all about the Flash!
Regardless of the motives behind the penguin's love of bling, it has been both a blessing and a curse for our aquarists. They are able to distract the animals with hanging CDs if they need to take a blood sample or provide special food to a specific penguin however they often have watches and rings attacked as the penguins set their eyes on anything gold or silver. Although they only seem to go for the expensive items!
So if you want to see the cutest wannabe thieves around, come down and see the Little Penguins at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium. Just remember to leave your jewellery at home!
