Born to be Free

Meet the Scientist is BACK! And to kick off we've got a great topic - our favourite icon of both snorkeling and inshore diving - the wobbegong.

'Born to be free? Assessing the viability of releasing captive-bred wobbegong sharks to replenish depleted wild populations'

This project, in partnership with SEA LIFE Trust, aimed to assess the viability of re-stocking wobbegong populations with captive-bred individuals from SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium. This is the first scientific study to assess the ability of such animals to survive and assimilate into free-ranging communities.

We'll get to hear the findings of Kate's research and see how well our little captive bred sharks went in the wild.

Kate will also talk about the iconic blue groper which form part of her research in identifying movements and habitat preference of various species.
