Surf at Coolum Beach
Coolum Beach is a surfer's paradise with its consistent waves and stunning coastal views. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner, it's the perfect place to catch some waves. Plus, the nearby cafes and shops make it a great spot to spend the day.
Kayak with Dolphins
Paddle alongside playful dolphins on a kayaking tour! Several operators offer guided tours where you can explore the coastline and enjoy close encounters with these friendly marine mammals. It’s an exhilarating experience that combines adventure with the beauty of nature.
Kondalilla Falls
If you’re seeking a spectacular waterfall, take one of the trails to Kondalilla Falls. The most family-friendly is the Picnic Creek Circuit, which is an easy 1.7km walk. All the amenities are here – there are toilets and a grassy space for a picnic. And don’t forget to squash your swimmers into your backpack so you can cool off in the waterhole during the summer months.
SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast
If you’ve got sea creature-loving kids, then the short drive to Mooloolaba is well worth the trip. With over 10,000 animals to see across loads of habitat zones, it’s an interactive underwater experience. Get to know our dreamy jellyfish species which have called the oceans home for over 650 million years. Check out their countless colours and mesmerising motion. Tour the 80-metre Ocean Tunnel, and get underneath our underwater residents such as sharks, rays and sawfish for a one-of-a-kind view.
Marvellous Mooloolaba
Just across the road from SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast is Mooloolaba Beach. When you’re done having a dip in the deep blue, head to The Wharf for some boutique shopping and lap up the river views from the boardwalk. Then linger for lunch and sample some local produce in your choice of 15 restaurants, cafes and bars.
Sea Turtle Spotting
From early January to mid-march, you can spot turtle hatchlings. You can find nests from Caloundra to Teewah, but your best chance of success is at Shelly Beach and the Kawana stretch. When the sun sets, take a torch and head for the shoreline, but be careful if you glimpse some turtle action because movement and light make the hatchlings nervous.
Mary Cairncross Reserve
This 55-hectares of thriving rainforest has picture postcard views of the Glass House Mountains. On top of the vistas, there’s a playground, picnic-ready green space and a pram-friendly track. If you’re lucky, you might catch sight of a paddymelon; the small wallabies that hang out there.
The Sunshine Coast has a host of activities to keep you and the kids smiling. Whether you’re a local, or a visitor to the area, it’s easy to see why this region is rich in fun.
