Chinese Waterdragon

Tropeninsel

Did you know?

  • Chinese Waterdragons are excellent swimmers and can stay underwater for long periods of time to hide from predators. They use their long, muscular tail as a paddle to move efficiently in the water.
The animals can easily change their skin colour, especially when stressed or during social interactions. While they normally wear a bright green, they can take on darker shades to express their mood or to better camouflage themselves.
  • Like many lizard species, the Chinese Waterdragon can shed its tail to confuse predators and escape. The tail grows back, but not in its original shape and length. This mechanism is an amazing survival tool in the wild.
  • The large Chinese Waterdragon at SEA LIFE Munich is called Günther, while his smaller partner is called Gisela. Both come from the Auffangstation für Reptilien, München e.V. and are very curious. Their favourite food is grasshoppers.
