- The Pot-bellied Seahorse is one of the largest seahorse species in the world and can reach a length of up to 35 centimetres. This size makes it particularly conspicuous and impressive compared to other seahorse species.
- Unlike many other seahorse species that live in tropical waters, this species prefers cool waters and is mainly found off the coasts of Australia and New Zealand. This adaptation to cooler temperatures makes it unique among seahorses.
- The Pot-bellied Seahorse displays a strong pair bond, with males and females often remaining partners for life. Pairs perform daily courtship rituals that strengthen their bond. As with other seahorses, the male takes care of the brood by carrying the eggs in his brood pouch until the young hatch.
