Moon Jellyfish

Ohrenqualle

Did you know?

  • The Moon Jellyfish lives in native waters, for example in the Baltic Sea, and is characterised by four rings in the almost transparent, gelatinous centre of its umbrella. Moon Jellyfish have a diameter of 5 cm to 40 cm and consist of over 98 % water.
  • Most jellyfish species are comparatively harmless to humans. If you were to be touched by the tentacles of a Moon Jellyfish, this would usually only lead to irritation. However, some jellyfish species are deadly. Moon Jellyfish feed on plankton, which adheres to a special layer of mucus.
  • Jellyfish move through the water like ghosts. They move by contracting their umbrellas. Did you know that this jellyfish species is dependent on tides and currents, as it can only move up and down?
