NEW $9 Million oceanarium upgrade
In 2023 our 2.2-million-litre Oceanarium experienced a MASSIVE renovation, seeing the 20-year-old exhibit converted into a vibrant, living ecosystem that mirrors the captivating beauty and diversity of the world's coral reefs.
Night on the Reef is alive with a kaleidoscope of tropical fish species, including zebra sharks, largetooth sawfish, turtles and more.
The Behind-the-Scenes tour allows you to experience the inner workings of our NEW Night on the Reef exhibit. You'll learn how we create and maintain our ocean environments for the creatures in our care, find out how we prepare the food they like to eat and witness our newest residents up close!
Please note, general admission is NOT included in the Behind-the-scenes tour ticket.

- Your general admission ticket should be at least 10 minutes prior to your behind-the-scenes booking.
- You behind-the-scenes ticket DOES NOT include admission into the attractions.
Behind the Scenes tour runs:
9:30am, 11:00am, 12:00pm and 1:30pm.
- 30-minute private guided tour by an expert
- Experience our NEW 2.2-million-litre Oceanarium exhibit from above
- Animal food prep
- Access the working areas which are usually closed to the public
- Experience an animal feed
- Ask all of your burning marine life questions
- General admission not included.
- Maximum of 8 and minimum of 2 participants per tour.
- $30 per person (general admission tickets must be purchased separately)
- Tour runs EVERYDAY at 9:30am, 11:00am, 12:00pm and 1:30pm during school holidays.
- Children must be 5 years and above to participate and accompanied by a full-paying adult or guardian (+18 years).
- Sign-in at admissions upon arrival and our friendly staff can direct you to the tour meeting point.

- Photos are not permitted during the tour.
- Must wear closed toe shoes.

- Late arrival or failure to attend will result in non-admittance and will forfeit the experience and all money paid. Rescheduling must be made 7 days prior to the experience and will incur a $25 rescheduling fee per person.

- Participants must arrive at the entry on time for your experience. Please note, latecomers may not be admitted to the experience.

No, we will be very close to the animals, but we will not be allowed to touch them.
Yes, the group will be allowed to feed some of the fish in this exhibit.
While all care is taken to ensure that guests will not be exposed to seafood it is a food preparation area. Guest discretion is advised. Please inform your tour guide if you have any relevant allergies.
We do not allow photographs to be taken in behind the scenes areas.
Yes, you are welcome to carry your belongings during this tour.
Yes, you can purchase on the day. There are only 8 spots per tour, so we recommend booking early to not miss out.
Yes, Merlin Annual Pass holders receive a discount.
- No jewellery or watches can be taken on tour.
- You must wear/bring closed toed shoes on the day of your experience. Failure to do this may result in the experience being cancelled.
- Please arrive no later than 30 minutes before your Behind-the-scenes start time.
- Long hair must be tied back during the experience.
- No strollers or prams allowed on the experience due to limited space. All prams can be stored in pram parking at admissions during tour check in.
Terms & Conditions: Guests must be over 5 years (Guests under 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult 18+ who is also participating in the tour). Minimum of 2 guests per tour. Limited to six guests per experience.
