Bringing Grins to Fins
- Friday 6th October 2023
Calls of ‘open wide’ will be heard at SEA LIFE London Aquarium from 6 October - World Smile Day - as the famous South Bank attraction announces the appointment of the world’s first Fish Dentist following the arrival of a pair of wolfish, renowned for their impressive dental display.
The Wolfish - who have been dubbed Rylan and Rob (after Rylan Clark and Rob Beckett who are also both known for their exceptional teeth) - are not your average aquatic buddies but the ultimate underwater trendsetters, boasting some of the most impressive dental work this side of the Atlantic.
With impressive sets of gnashers that are bound to make the Aquarium’s shiver of sharks jealous, wolfish have long been the aquatic ambassadors of oral hygiene. From cracking crustaceans to munching on mollusks, wolfish use their powerful jaws to bite into prey, crushing their shells and grinding them to pieces.
From 6 October, to honour World Smile Day, SEA LIFE London Aquarium is turning the tide on traditional dental care with the introduction of its revolutionary Fish Dentist. The unique role, which isn’t for the faint-hearted, involves ensuring that even the most finickity of fish keep their pearly whites in tip-top condition. The Fish Dentist will perform regular check-ups, tartar removal, and make sure the wolfish undergo regular fishy-friendly flossing!
Expressing her excitement at the arrival of the wolfish and first of its kind Fish Dentist, SEA LIFE London Aquarium’s General Manager Catherine Pritchard said: "Our wolfish duo have already made a pearly white impression and their distinctive teeth are a sight to behold.
“To mark World Smile Day, we're taking a step beyond traditional care by introducing our pioneering Fish Dentist. Their role will include making sure our toothy companion’s gnashers remain sparkling and healthy and help us set new standards in underwater wellness. We just hope they haven’t bitten off more than they can chew!"
