Let's explore!

Immerse yourself in a world of creepy crawlies, charming crocs and curious critters. Come just centimetres away from the Chilean rose tarantula and race our colony of leafcutter ants to find the queen, before watching the feeding frenzy of the UK's biggest collection of Piranhas!

An adventure awaits, so what are you waiting for?

Did you know?

During the wet season, rivers flood the rainforest floor where fruits, nuts and seeds fall. When the dry season returns some fish are tapped in ever-decreasing, muddy pools without food, with little oxygen and no way of escaping predators.

On the river, predators can appear from any direction, above or below the water. You've got to be tough to make it in this habitat. Many rainforest creatures are big and toothy but sometimes it's the smallest and most harmless-looking animals which can pack the deadliest punch!

The Amazon is Diverse

To date, at least 40,000 plant species, 427 mammals (e.g. jaguars or anteaters), 1300 birds (e.g. happy eagle or toucans), 378 reptiles (e.g. boas) more than 400 amphibians and around 3000 freshwater fishes, including the piranha, have been found in the Amazon!

5 Tips to help our Rainforests

How can you help to save the rainforest from home?

  1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Minimize waste by recycling paper, plastic, and other materials.
  2. Buy Rainforest-Friendly Stuff: Look for products with a special green frog symbol (Rainforest Alliance) or a tree symbol (FSC) to make sure they come from places that take care of the rainforest.
  3. Use Less Paper: Try using both sides of your paper when you draw or write. Going digital is great too!
  4. Eat Smart: Choose snacks and foods that are grown in ways that help the rainforest, like special chocolate or coffee.
  5. Say No to Palm Oil: Check if the things you buy have palm oil, and try to avoid it if it’s not sustainably made. Palm oil can harm the rainforest.
