At SEA LIFE Loch Lomond we want to help protect our native sharks and rays
Large numbers are being killed as by-catch. SEA LIFE Loch Lomond works with the Scottish Sea Angling Conservation Network (SSACN) to protect native sharks in coastal areas of Scotland.
We also give special shark talks to emphasise the importance of this work and to educate our visitors and the general public about the plight of our native species of sharks. Sharks face many dangers, among them are being entangled in fishing nets, being caught as by-catch, overfishing, shark finning and accidental capture.
We take part in a national Shark Tagging program to collect data about the number of native sharks found around the coast of Scotland and raising funds for SSACN
Shark tagging helps us monitor movement and understand the distribution and migration of native sharks which leads to the development of better conservation and fishing policies.
You can support this cause in the SEA LIFE centre itself and help fund our important work for sharks and rays.
