Sun worshiper
Map turtles are easy to recognize from the outside: On the one hand, they have three distinct humps protruding in the middle of their olive-green to brown shell, on the other hand, their belly shell is light yellow and very noticeable.
They prefer to live in densely vegetated rivers with protruding rocks and stones. They need the stones because they like to lie in the sun surrounded by water and regulate their body temperature.
Swim with a full stomach
The map turtles live on small molluscs and insects as well as grass and only eat their food in the water. However, they also pull food from land into the water to eat it there.
