Way of life
The cownose ray belongs to the diurnal rays and lives in large sociable groups with often hundreds of their species. In individual cases up to 10,000 specimens have been spotted in a swarm.
Livebearers
Like many species of rays, reproduction of the cownose ray is ovoviviparous. This means that the female feeds the eggs within her body with yolk and the offspring hatch from the eggs inside the womb.
Natural habitat
The cownose ray lives in tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific oceans. It feels particularly comfortable on sandy and muddy bottoms in bays, estuaries or coral reefs.
