Shark Finning Ban Announced
- Monday 11th November 2013
The New Zealand government has announced its commitment to end shark finning within New Zealand waters within two years.
As reported by the NZ Herald, Minister for Primary Industries Nathan Guy and Conservation Minister Nick Smith want to ban the practice of catching a shark, killing and slicing off its fins and tossing back the carcass.
The ban would begin in some fisheries next October, with all areas covered by 2016.
Kelly Tarlton's SEA LIFE Aquarium supports the banning of shark finning as part of our global SEA LIFE 'Breed, Rescue, Protect' programme, which works to preserve the precious life that dwells in our oceans.
