Ice-Cold Creche
- Tuesday 14th January 2014
The Gentoo Penguin chicks hatched in November 2013 are now happily housed in their own special nursery within the penguin enclosure at the aquarium.
In the wild their parents go off to feed and prepare for moult when the chicks are about 30 days old, leaving them behind in groups or creches. We recreate this natural occurence at Kelly Tarlton's.
Visitors to the aquarium during January will be able to see the chicks putting on weight, and getting spoilt! The chicks are currently in baby down, and soon they will start to grow their adult plumage, including the white cap Gentoos are famous for.
